Shoei GT Air

Image
My old Shark RSI has become rather battered and worn, so I went shopping at Helmet City today (who I can strongly recommend, the folks in there really know their stuff).  After trying on loads I ended up buying this Shoei GT Air.  It's got all the essentials for year-round riding (Pinlock, flip-down sun-visor, plenty of vents), but most of all it's proper , sumptuous quality .  It's first-class travel for your head! I did try another Shark, but the detailing was poor - sun-visor lever didn't feel robust, poor visor locking, etc.  Also tried an X-Lite, but it didn't fit as well as the Shoei, and my chin felt a bit exposed. This helmet only has a 3-star SHARP rating, the same as most of the Shoei and Arai range.  The manufacturers argue the tests are not representative of real-world accidents, and their own research from motorsport is much more accurate - but then they would say that, wouldn't they? You can get a 5-star helmet for a fraction of the price...

Honda NM4 Vultus, announced today LOOK - mood lighting for your instrument cluster - WHO WOULDN'T WANT THIS?! This is how other road users will see you - a dark knight of the road, smashing crime, righting wrongs, and pushing in front of them at traffic lights. Under the skin it's a harmless NC750 with the DCT automatic transmission, so you can impress small children whilst enjoying 80-odd miles per gallon.

I'm plenty comfortable with looking ridiculous.

Long before Len became famous, he drew the picture below for me.  Oddly it doesn't appear on his blog, so here it is now for you to enjoy, in it's original VGA glory.

Silly Bike Time

Took the CBR out for the first time in months, after servicing it (13,510 miles), 'cos it was actually a sunny day!  It was just as painful in urban areas as I remembered, and just as breathtaking on fast B-roads.  I remain a bit frightened of it, which I suppose is good...

First post of the year and it's Captain Pinky , who's due to return to the community in the next couple of months (assuming I can afford the bloody insurance).  Loads of condensation suggest the rain rail (in the base of the hood) has failed.  There was so much mould on the steering wheel I had to use neat bleach. Jobs to do include replacing the brake fluid, seeing if the calipers can be coaxed back into motion, engine service, and it probably needs tyres too.
