MX5... sold

Image
I mentioned on the Autoshite forum I was definitely probably maybe selling this, and a deal has been quickly struck with a long-standing member.  He has one already and was considering turbo'ing it, so this provides him with a shortcut.  Will be sorry to see it go but also pleased my procrastination has been brought to an end. This will leave a space on the drive, and nature abhors a vacuum...

MX5 BACK

Image
It's back on the road!  Took it to work today - what could go wrong after leaving it idle for 3 years?  Well, the MAP sensor tube came off actually, and made it run like shite - soon fixed that though.  Seems to be an exhaust leak around the turbo, despite me replacing the gasket last night (think it's from the exhaust connection). It's as noisy and lairy as it always was, and is both STUPID and DANGEROUS and inappropriate for a man of my age.

Coming this summer - scruffy old man in scruffy old car

MX5 is finally back from the garage, complete with MOT.  They had a new oil feed hose made up, total cost £98 so happy with that. Have still been undecided on whether to sell or not, but I've had a sit in it this evening and right now I want to keep it.  Will get an insurance quote tomorrow. H2 has covered 4200 miles now, could so with tyres as it's starting to need persuasion to change direction.  It's not much fun in warm weather, it pumps out a load of heat which I can feel through my boots, even at 50mph.

MX5 back on the road... nearly

Last weekend I got fed up seeing the corpse of the MX5 everytime I opened the front door, and decided to sell it.  Like myself, it's old and faded and serves no purpose.  This means getting an MOT, the first since 2015. I stopped using it because MOTORBIKES but also the clutch hydraulics were shot, and I couldn't be arsed to fix it.  Found the slave was leaking like a bastard, replacing it wasn't too much bother and quite cheap from Rock Auto in the US, despite the postage. Disks and pads next.  Vactan'd and undersealed the rear arches, chassis members, etc.  Wheelarches and sills are very sound as I've been looking after them, but I was worried about rot hidden away. Engine bay was filthy and full of cobwebs, cleaned it down with paraffin and it came up surprisingly well. Damage and general paint awfulness.  Leaving this as is for the moment. Lot of patina going on here.  It was collected for MOT last Thursday, it's first trip off t...

Wot I did on my hollydays

Image
I was on hols last week and had a few days out.   First, a trip to Sammy Miller's museum where I had some VERY BAD TEA (a bag in a mug, unacceptable).  I actually saw Sammy too, he's a little old man now and was giving a tour to some pensioners, so it didn't seem appropriate to duff him up over that tea. Next it was Exbury Gardens, to see er... flowers and stuff.  Good ice cream there. Bluebell railway next.  I don't really know much about trains but I like the style and romance of steam.  We spent the day running up and down the line in cosy 1st class compartments, having the occasional nap. Finally, a couple of nights in Norfolk to visit folks and rip up roads on the H2. I've done almost 3000 miles on it now, it's bloody brilliant. Found some great routes around Thetford/Swaffham/Fakenham/Dereham.  When I was young I found Norfolk so boring but I appreciate it now, so much so I've been looking at house prices i...

Niken!

Image
Went to Poole bike night for the first time this year - had the traditional poor-quality sausage and chips (wrecking my diet for the day), and saw a Niken for the first time in the metal.  Do like, but would be just a novelty I suppose. H2 reached 1000 miles on the way back, I need to cut down on the usage - not had it 3 weeks yet!

'Peds with attitude

Was lent this today while the Kwak was being serviced, a Z650.  It felt a bit tiny and hopeless at first, but give it some beans and it sounds angry!  It's like an aggressive chuhuahua, I was soon thrashing it along and cackling at it's impotent rage.
