7 days with Roger

Roger's been here a week now, and although he still looks very poorly he's making steady progress. Steady, expensive progress. So far I've done the following:

  • Ordered a new chain and sprockets (even steeping the old chain in delicious paraffin for 48 hours wouldn't free it up).  £110.
  • New brake lever, ~£13.  I'm going to present the old, artistically bent one to Danny, who is Roger's previous abuser owner.  So he can remember what he did, the monster.
  • New OEM screen - 99p from eBay (plus £15 shipping...)
  • Removed the heated grips.  They're the clever Oxford ones that detect when the engine is running from battery output, but apparently they didn't work - I'll rig them up and if they're OK, they'll go on the VFR.
  • Removed the Scottoiler.  This was a fancy version that fitted behind the number plate, but given the state of the chain I'm not sure this was working either.  Might be able to eBay that, and get some of my precious, precious brass back.
  • Cleaned up the front calipers.  The inner pads were corroded into the bodies so wouldn't have been much cop.  I really hope those front discs clean up with use, or that's another £250 to spend.
  • Fixed the non-returning throttle.  This was a combination of a sticky handgrip and severely out of adjustment cables.
  • Replaced the generator cover (£5 for instant gasket).
  • The fairing bracket has been causing me MUCH GRIEF.  Chris's friend had a go at it with heat/mallets, but test fitting revealed it's still wildly warped. No breakers have an intact one, so it looks like I'll have to get a new one.  At least David Silver offer a discount on new OEM parts, but it's still about £160.
  • New drive chain adjuster installed, and a couple of other little OEM bits - £27.
